UNITED NAVY FAMILIES

United in FRIENDSHIP and SUPPORT
of our SAILORS and EACH OTHER!
WHO WE ARE
United Navy Families is a an online group of United States Navy family members who have joined together to support our Sailors and each other.

We are a diverse group, coming from all different walks of life, different states, different stages of our Navy association...but we have one thing in common...our love for our Sailors. Through this common bond we have formed friendships that will last long after our association with the Navy!
OUR HISTORY
United Navy Families was formed in November 2002 as GW Moms. Two USS George Washington Moms, who had "met" in another group wanted to have a private place to discuss and make plans for the GW's 2002 Homecoming. So a Delphi forum was started and other GW Moms from a couple of other groups were invited to join.

One of those Moms had a friend who was a USS Normandy Mom and wanted to invite her to join the group. (The Normandy was part of the GW Battlegroup during the 2002 deployment.) The Normandy Mom was invited and the name of the group changed to GW Battlegroup Moms. As the ships in the Battlegroup and the attached Airwing changed, so did membership in the group.

In 2003, the Navy changed the terminology from "Battlegroup" to "Carrier Strike Group" and the name of our group changed again to reflect the new terminilogy and became GWCSG Moms.

Shortly before the USS George Washington's 2004 deployment, other family members became interested in the group and the name changed again to GWCSG Families and membership was opened to any Sailor aboard one of the ships in the Strike Group or the attached Airwing and their adult family members.

After the 2004 Homecoming the membership voted to expand the group to include ALL Navy personnel (DEP, Active, Reserve, Retired, Veteran) and their adult family members and the official name of the group was changed to United Navy Families
WHAT WE DO
We offer FRIENDSHIP and SUPPORT to all Navy personnel and their adult family members though our PRIVATE Delphi forum message board and chatroom.

We share our joys, our fears, our pride. We laugh together, we cry together, we celebrate together. If you have a question, chances are, one of our members will know the answer or will know where to find the answer. We understand the highest highs and the lowest lows of the emotional roller-coaster life of the Navy family as no one else can who has not lived it.

Although our chatroom is open and available 24/7 to any member who chooses to use it, we have three regularly scheduled chats: Sunday afternoon beginning at 2:00 pm Eastern, Tuesday afternoons beginning at 1:00 pm Eastern, and Friday evenings beginning at 8:00 pm Eastern time.

We not only support each other, but we support all Sailors in the United States Navy, whether it be by sending a birthday card to a Sailor or fulfilling some other need. We are always willing to "adopt" a Sailor who is not receiving mail or perhaps has no family to support him or her.
